Events held by the West Wight Painting Circle
The Committee organise events throughout the year which we hope provide members with inspiration and fun.
Check out our Calendar of Events for more details of the activities, times, dates, costs etc. Or, give Mick a call on 01983 761851 to see how you can join in.
Our events include:
- Painting-out days in West Wight.
- Demonstrations by artists from both the Isle of Wight and the mainland.
- Social activities (eg. summer bbq or Christmas parties).
- Trips abroad and to the mainland.
Painting-Out on the Isle of Wight
The Island is a beautiful place with great opportunities for artists of all abilities. From May to August our members meet at carefully selected venues to draw, paint or simply enjoy their surroundings and the company of others.
The Committee carefully select venues that not only provide interesting subject matter, but also have easy access, loos and refreshments.
On our Painting-Out days, members meet up around 1.30pm at a pre-arranged venue. After a few hours of painting or drawing, we then get together for the all-important tea, cake and chat.
In August one of the painting-out days will also include a picnic or BBQ.
Talks & Demonstrations
4 times a year, the WWPC hold talks and demonstrations by visiting professional artists.
These events cover a variety of techniques and approaches to art.
We have had demonstrations of painting and drawing with traditional media (watercolour, acrylic, oil, pastel) as well as other techniques (life-drawing, silk painting, mono-printing, silk-screen printing, children’s book writing & illustration).
Speakers bring examples of their work and often have cards, prints & publications for sale.
Members have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and talk to the artist over a cup of tea/coffee (sometimes there is even cake!).
Recent speakers include:
- Diana Parsons
- Angela Sowden
- Alastair Riley
- Julia Marriner
- Murray Ince
- Maria Ward
- Malcolm Winter
- Peter Allen
The West Wight Painting Circle holds 3 exhibitions over the spring and summer at the Town Hall in Yarmouth.
These exhibitions include:
- Original artwork – framed
- Original artwork or prints – mounted
- Greetings cards
Around 70 pictures are hung at each exhibition and the unframed pictures and prints are presented in a browser.
Each member can submit up to 3 framed pictures and 4 unframed for each exhibition.
The WWPC exhibitions are popular with locals and visitors and around 20% of paintings are usually sold at our events.
